Introduction: The expansion of digital technologies has reconfigured educational systems, intensifying the need to strengthen teacher training for work in virtual environments. Objective: To analyze the efficacy and the primary challenges of teacher training in virtual environments within the Latin American context. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. The sample consisted of 25 original studies published between 2021 and 2025, selected according to pre-established criteria. Results: The studies revealed associations between digital competence and teacher performance. Training demonstrated greater efficacy when programs incorporated continuous pedagogical accompaniment, monitoring, contextualized feedback, and the availability of technological platforms. However, a gap was identified between technical skill proficiency and the development of pedagogical capacities for instructional design, educational mediation, and online assessment. Furthermore, limited connectivity, the lack of institutional support, and the implementation of non-differentiated training sessions increased inequalities and reduced the sustainability of the formative processes. Conclusions: The efficacy of teacher training in virtual environments depends on the integration of digital pedagogical competencies, adequate technological infrastructure, and continuous institutional support. It is necessary to design contextualized, sustainable, and differentiated programs that respond to the actual needs of Latin American faculty.
