Influence of Research-Based Learning on the Research Skills of Students: A Systematic Review

Introducción: Las habilidades investigativas constituyen un componente fundamental de la formación académica, debido a que permiten desarrollar capacidades para analizar información, generar conocimiento y resolver problemas mediante procesos sistemáticos de indagación. Objetivo: Analizar la influencia del aprendizaje basado en investigación en el desarrollo de las habilidades investigativas de los estudiantes. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de literatura siguiendo los lineamientos PRISMA. Se analizaron 26 estudios publicados entre 2022 y mayo de 2026, considerando investigaciones relacionadas con la aplicación del aprendizaje basado en investigación y su impacto en el desarrollo de competencias investigativas en diferentes niveles educativos. Resultados: Los hallazgos evidenciaron que el aprendizaje basado en investigación fortalece habilidades básicas como observación, formulación de preguntas, búsqueda de información e interpretación de datos, así como habilidades cognitivas superiores relacionadas con pensamiento crítico, creatividad, autonomía y resolución de problemas. Asimismo, se identificó que su articulación con metodologías activas y herramientas digitales incrementa sus efectos formativos, mostrando resultados favorables en diversos contextos geográficos, disciplinares y educativos. Conclusiones: El aprendizaje basado en investigación influye positiva y significativamente en el desarrollo de habilidades investigativas de los estudiantes. Su implementación constituye una estrategia pedagógica pertinente para promover aprendizajes activos, pensamiento crítico y autonomía académica, requiriendo diseños instruccionales contextualizados y acompañamiento docente permanente para maximizar sus beneficios.
Introduction: Research skills are a cornerstone of academic development, as they foster the capacity to analyze information, generate knowledge, and solve problems through systematic inquiry processes. Objective: To analyze the influence of Research-Based Learning (RBL) on the development of students' research skills. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Twenty-six studies published between 2022 and May 2026 were analyzed, focusing on the application of RBL and its impact on the development of research competencies across various educational levels. Results: The findings demonstrate that Research-Based Learning strengthens foundational skills—such as observation, question formulation, information retrieval, and data interpretation—as well as higher-order cognitive skills related to critical thinking, creativity, autonomy, and problem-solving. Furthermore, the results indicate that integrating RBL with active methodologies and digital tools enhances its formative effects, showing favorable outcomes across diverse geographic, disciplinary, and educational contexts. Conclusions: Research-Based Learning has a positive and significant influence on the development of students' research skills. Its implementation serves as a pertinent pedagogical strategy to promote active learning, critical thinking, and academic autonomy; however, it requires contextualized instructional designs and continuous teacher guidance to maximize its benefits.
