The study analyzes the relationship between self-esteem and its psychological impact on university students, focusing on its role in emotional, academic, and social well-being. The objective was to synthesize empirical evidence on the dimensions and factors associated with self-esteem. A systematic review was conducted of indexed studies published between 2020 and 2025, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The final sample included twenty-five studies, both international and national, which examined self-esteem and its effect on psychological indicators. The results show that high self-esteem is associated with greater resilience, well-being, and academic performance, while low self-esteem increases the risk of depression, anxiety, and dysfunctional behaviors. It is concluded that self-esteem is a relevant protective factor in university mental health, and its strengthening should be included in strategies for promoting psychological well-being among youth.
